Semi Destroyed in Fire Along Interstate 41

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office responded to a semi on fire along Interstate 41 Sunday morning. The cab of the truck caught fire near the Winnebago Street off-ramp around 2:30am in the morning. 

Captain Ryan Waldschmidt tells us the fire spread quickly and the entire cab of the truck burned by the time firefighters could knock it down. Waldschmidt adds “there were some pops or what some described as explosions that were heard, but what I was – was the tires on the tractor unit that were actually melting through and then bursting. So it was the popping noise from the tires exploding that was making those pops.”

Nobody was hurt in the fire. The trailer was also empty at the time and was not impacted by the flames.
