UW-Oshkosh Faculty Expresses Concern About University Reducing Positions

Concerns are rising among UW-Oshkosh
faculty members, as the school plans to reduce positions. One political science
professor argues a reduction in state support is a major factor – and that more
classes for faculty means less attention for students, and a lesser quality
education.

 But Chancellor Andrew Leavitt says the move is necessary to line up
expenses with revenue at the university. The school has already shedded over
100 positions over the past four years. There was a 15-percent drop in
enrollment in the last six fall semesters before this year, which the
university says is a loss of about $10-million.
