$1 million cash bond set for Fond du Lac man accused of killing man in Oshkosh

Information on the 19-year-old Fond du Lac man accused of stabbing a man to death in Oshkosh last week has come out in the form of a criminal complaint.

Daunte Riley is accused of killing 27-year-old Walter Brooks on the night of July 5th, 2025 in Menominee Park in Oshkosh after a reported fight broke out.

Brooks was discovered injured after crashing a vehicle into a tree at the intersection of East Irving Avenue and Grove Street in Oshkosh just before 11 p.m.

Emergency personnel on the scene discovered he had suffered multiple stab wounds and he was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead a little over a half hour later.

After investigating the crime scene, a suspect vehicle was noted, and that vehicle was seen entering Fond du Lac around midnight that night on a Flock camera.

Police in Fond du Lac familiar with the registered owner went to an address on east Johnson Street where the vehicle was known to be, and found it parked there.

Police and sheriff’s deputies surrounded the house until Oshkosh authorities could arrive to question Riley. He was subsequently taken into custody and charged with First-Degree Intentional Homicide and Disorderly Conduct – Use of a Dangerous Weapon.

He was in court yesterday for a preliminary hearing where he had a cash bond set at $1 million. Riley is scheduled to appear back in court next Monday and then Thursday for a preliminary hearing.
