19-year-old dragged 3 miles after being run over at crash scene pronounced deceased
Just after 1 AM on the morning of New Years Eve, 2023, the Fond du Lac County Communications Center received a call of a one vehicle rollover crash on Highway 45 near the Washington County Line.
Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle that was traveling southbound and entered the west ditch, striking a culvert and then overturned several times before coming to rest.
Four of the five occupants of the vehicle, were ejected during the crash but only three were located at the scene. Officers used thermal imaging cameras to help locate the fourth.
It wasn’t until the fourth victim, a 19-year-old Hartford woman, was located three miles away that they determined after being ejected and laying in the road at the first crash scene, she was struck by another vehicle and dragged three miles away before being deposited on the roadway.
Campbellsport and Kewaskum ambulances transported the other four victims from the crash to local hospitals. According to a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s press release, three had life threatening injuries and one had non-life threatening injuries.
Also assisting at the scene was the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Kewaskum Fire Department.
Hwy 45 was re-routed for approximately four hours by the Fond du Lac County Highway Department and Wisconsin State Patrol while the Fond du Lac County Reconstruction Team investigated the crash.
