2025 Public Safety Telecommunicators Week – April 13-19, 2025

In 1981, a dispatcher in California founded Telecommunicators Week to raise public awareness about the hard work and dedication of public safety telecommunicators. A decade later, in 1991, Congress officially recognized it with a proclamation, which President Clinton signed, designating the second full week in April as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. This year, we continue this tradition, honoring the critical role telecommunicators play in our society during Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, from April 13 to 19.
The Fond du Lac County Communications Center, a Sheriff’s Office-run 911 center, serves all communities in Fond du Lac County, including 18 fire departments, six ambulance services, 11 first responder groups, and 11 law enforcement agencies.
Each day, the Communications Center handles an average of over 367 administrative and emergency calls and manages more than 215 Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) calls for service. Dispatchers are the essential link between the public and emergency services. “We are deeply grateful for their unwavering dedication to the citizens of Fond du Lac County,” said Halbach. “Their ability to process information quickly, dispatch the appropriate public safety agencies, and provide comfort to those in need is unmatched.”
In recognition of the invaluable service provided by our public safety telecommunicators, the Fond du Lac County Board has declared April 13-19 as Public Safety Telecommunicator’s Week. This highlights the tireless commitment and dedication of our telecommunicators in safeguarding our communities. On behalf of the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, we extend our heartfelt thanks to our telecommunicators for their exceptional service.
