5 Small Town Wisconsin Diners You MUST Try

I’m a self proclaimed foodie. Hell, if you keep up with my daily radio show you’d know that I talk about food AT LEAST once a week. I’ve once referred to food as the “great social lubricator”, and by that I mean it effortlessly connects everyone. One thing I’ve noticed in my (almost) year in Wisconsin, is that folks around here LOVE talking about food. My kind of people.

So I took it upon myself to find small hidden gems in our great state. The places on this list must have two things in common: 1). They MUST be locally owned, and 2). They must have a population less than Fond Du Lac (45k). So, my fellow foodies, here are five small town Wisconsin diners you MUST try:

1).  Los Mezcales- Merrill WI

Kind of funny that this is also the name of place in Fondy, but I can assure you this place is completely its own. Located in Merrill WI, about 140 miles North of Fond Du Lac, Los Mezcales boasts incredible authentic Mexican food, while also doubling as Fish Fry spot on Friday nights! The Double Whammy!

2). The Pickle Tree- Deerfield, WI

This might be the most Wisconsin restaurant on the list. The Pickle Tree is known for its Pizza, Cold Beer, Burgers, and of course fish fry. One reviewer called it “Best pizza in town” which says a lot coming from the Madison area.

3). Flipside Cafe & Grill- Grafton WI

As the smallest menu on the list, you may think this doesn’t pack a punch. Don’t be fooled. This cafe is bursting with huge flavor. The French Toast is to die for and it is very reasonably priced!

4). The White Gull Inn- Fish Creek WI

Out in the middle of nowhere, might just be the biggest understatement of the century. Yet, The White Gull Inn is nothing short of spectacular. Fairing more like a supper club, The White Gull Inn has a massive menu, that appeals to all fine dining food lovers alike.

5). Lake Street Cafe- Elkhart Lake, WI

As the last entry on our list, Elkhart Lake, I’m sure, was on your mind as a tiny town must have. Lake Street Cafe is a local favorite. It offers both casual and fine dining experiences for customers. Not to mention over 250 wines to choose from. Locals claim it’s the best Elkhart Lake has to offer, and there’s certainly a case to be made.
