84-year-old man med flighted to trauma center after fall
UPDATE: The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office has been notified that the individual involved, identified as 84-year-old Carl Holter of West Bend, has since passed away as a result of injuries sustained in the fall.
An 84-year-old man was severely injured Sunday, March 29, 2026, after falling on a trail at a local state owned campground.
Just before 5 p.m., the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 911 call reporting that the man had fallen on a trail near the boat launch area at Mauthe Lake Campground and sustained severe facial injuries.
Deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Campbellsport Ambulance, Kewaskum Fire Department and First Responders responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, emergency personnel determined that the man had been walking on the trail when he fell onto the compacted gravel surface. Due to the severity of his injuries, Flight for Life medical helicopter was requested to the scene.
The campground entrance was closed for about an hour to allow the helicopter space to land and take off.
The man was transported to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee for treatment.
