State’s First Hospital Mental Health Outpatient Unit To Open At SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital

SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital will become the first hospital in Wisconsin and the first SSM Health facility to offer a mental health outpatient day stabilization unit.

On Monday, September 26, 2022, representatives from SSM Health, SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital, and the State of Wisconsin held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the unit which will be
opening later this fall. The unit will offer assistance, services, and support for up to 23 hours to individuals experiencing mental health crises.

This new service is supported by a $158,000 Healthcare Infrastructure Capital Grant from the Department of Administration on behalf of the State of Wisconsin.

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers, who joined the ribbon cutting event said “We know folks across our state need these mental and behavioral health services perhaps now more
than ever, and I am proud the state could help support SSM Health to bring this unit to fruition for the folks in Fond du Lac County and the surrounding area.”

Once open, SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital will work with various county mental health crisis team members or internal SSM Health emergency department staff after
they complete the mental health and/or substance use screening and assessment to determine the appropriate level of care.
