Fire In House Quickly Extinguished By Waupun Fire Chief

A quick response from the Waupun Fire Chief may have prevented a rural Waupun house from receiving substantial fire damage last night.
Just before 12:30 AM, the Waupun Country Fire Department was paged for a fire in a house on Highway 49, east of Waupun.
Waupun Fire Chief BJ DeMaa arrived on the scene within minutes and found a dehumidifier in the basement of the house on fire.
He was able to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher and minimize damage to the house to smoke.
The fire department remained on the scene for about an hour ventilating the smoke out of the house, and the home owners were able to return to the house.
It is unknown at this time what caused the dehumidifier to start on fire.
