Police Pursuit Through City Ends With Head-On Collision With County Squad

A vehicle pursuit involving City Of Fond du Lac Police and Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputies traveled several city of Fond du Lac streets before ending in a crash.

Around 8:25 AM, the City of Fond du Lac Police were called to investigate an assault complaint that occurred in the 300 block of Western Avenue possibly involving a firearm and a stolen vehicle.

During the investigation officers located the stolen vehicle in the area of Western Avenue and Military Road.

Officers initiated a traffic stop, however the vehicle began to flee the area.

While the pursuit was in progress the stolen vehicle abruptly pulled over and Fond du Lac Police Officers attempted to initiate a high-risk vehicle stop. Two occupants of the vehicle quickly exited during the stop.

Officers took a 41-year-old female Fond du Lac resident and a 35-year-old male Fond du Lac resident into custody at which time the vehicle continued to flee the area.

Due to the high-risk nature of the call, including information that a firearm was involved, Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputies started responding to the area to assist.

A sheriff’s deputy spotted the suspect vehicle a short time after it fled the high-risk traffic stop and attempted to stop the vehicle, however the suspect did not stop and a pursuit ensued.

The pursuit travelled numerous city streets before entering Interstate 41 southbound at Military Road.

The suspect then exited at Hickory Street and entered the parking lot of Love’s Truck Stop on Rolling Meadows Drive, circled the building, and jumped a curb in an attempt to drive through the lawn back on to Rolling Meadows Drive.

Several tires were damaged when the suspect vehicle jumped the curb, and the driver lost control of his vehicle which was still travelling at a high rate of speed, striking a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputy’s squad head on, causing both vehicles to be rendered undrivable.

The suspect attempted to flee the crash scene on foot but was quickly taken into custody.

The driver, a 30-year-old man from Milwaukee and the officer that was involved in the crash were evaluated at the scene by Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue paramedics. The officer was transported to SSM/St. Agnes Hospital for further evaluation and released.

The suspect was transported to the Fond du Lac County Jail and is currently being held on charges including felony fleeing/eluding and first degree recklessly endangering safety charges from the sheriff’s office, and operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent and a probation warrant from Fond du Lac Police Department.

Police say the original assault complaint could result in additional charges against an additional suspect, a 32-year-old male Milwaukee resident.

No further details or information are being released at this time.
