Badgers Add Transfer Guard from Wyoming

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men’s basketball team announced its newest roster addition on Thursday, as head coach Greg Gard shared that Noah Reynolds will transfer and play basketball for the Badgers beginning in the fall of 2023.

A 6-foot-3 guard from Peoria, Illinois, Reynolds spent the past two seasons at Wyoming, where he played in a total of 42 games averaging 8.1 points per game and 45.8 percent shooting.

Reynolds made a jump in both his role and productivity this past season as a sophomore at Wyoming, starting 10 games and playing in 19 averaging 14.5 points per game, shooting 48.1 percent from the floor. He scored in double figures in 12 of 19 games, including a season-high 30 points against Texas A&M-Commerce, before his season was cut short due to injury suffered during conference play.

“Wisconsin was one of the first teams to reach out to me once I hit the transfer portal,” Reynolds said. “The most important thing to me, and something that stood out throughout my visit, was that nothing is promised here. That’s what I was looking for. A lot of places promise things and it’s not always the case. For me, it’s all about the work you put forth to commit to a team. They knew my situation and knew what I was looking for. I respect the morals of the program, and know that they recruit the right type of players.

“Coach (Joe) Krabbenhoft was one of the lead recruiters for me, and I remember when Coach Krabbenhoft told me about former Butler and Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens once being asked, ‘How do you get guys to dive on the floor and compete?’ and Brad Stevens’ answer was, ‘We recruit guys who dive on the floor.’

“That’s the type of teammate and atmosphere I’m excited to be part of at Wisconsin.”

The only true freshman to see action for the Cowboys in 2021-22, Reynolds appeared in 23 games in his first collegiate season. He averaged 2.9 points playing an average of 11.3 minutes per game – including a career-high 14 points at San Jose State – and tallied 17 assists on the season.

“We’re happy to welcome someone like Noah to our program,” Gard said. “One of the things that stood out to us right away about Noah is his toughness and work ethic, and a ‘chip on the shoulder’ mentality. That mindset and work ethic sets Noah up to come in and compete at the highest level. He’s a Midwest native, and he has lots of family in Wisconsin that grew up fans of the Badgers and Big Ten basketball. We’re looking forward to working with Noah here at Wisconsin and helping him chase his goals.”

A native of Peoria, Illinois, Reynolds was an All-State selection as a prep at Notre Dame High School where he led his team to an impressive 44-2 record over his last two seasons. As a senior, he averaged 15.3 points, 6.3 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game. His junior season, he was named Journal Star Large-School Boys Basketball Player of the Year leading his team to a No. 1 ranking in the Class 3A with a 30-1 record. He averaged 16.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game as a junior.
