Outdoor Fire Risk Goes Up As Humidity Drops

The National Weather Service says very dry conditions, with relative humidity falling into the 15 to 25 percent range, will result in an elevated fire potential Wednesday, June 7, 2023 and again Thursday afternoon for northeast Wisconsin.

The department says persistent dry weather has caused an increase in fire activity in recent days.

While Fond du Lac County is not included in this advisory, counties just to our north, including Winnebago County are.

Residents are urged to be careful with any activities that could potentially lead to a wildland fire. Campfires, outdoor grills, smoking materials, chain saws, fireworks, and all-terrain vehicles all have the potential to throw a spark and ignite a fire.

The weather service suggests avoiding any outdoor burning until the area sees rain or at the very least when humidity levels come back up.
