Wind From Thunderstorm Rakes Area

Strong to severe thunderstorms rolled through the area last night toppling trees and wires as they passed.

Around 7:15 PM a severe thunderstorm watch was issued and storms reached the county with a subsequent severe thunderstorm warning at 8:45 PM.

Ripon was the first in the county to report wires down with power outages.

A gust front, or area of wind that spreads out ahead of the precipitation, raked over the area bringing 50 mph winds through much of the city.

Multiple reports came in of trees on wires in Fond du Lac and throughout the county.

At 10:15 PM Aliant Energy’s website showed about 1400 customers without power throughout Fond du Lac County. As of 5 AM Saturday, that number was down to about 50.

Despite the wind associated with the thunderstorms, not much rain fell. The Fond du Lac County Airport only registered .02 inch with the passing weather.

The storms caused the cancelation of the night time truckers parade in Waupun, but todays daytime parade at 3 looks to have perfect weather.
