The Moon And Venus Pass Close Together In Early Morning Sky

Early morning risers this morning, Thursday, November 9, 2023, that had a view of the eastern sky were treated to an eye-catching celestial show as the crescent moon and Venus were right next to each other.

The moon, at only 15% full, and Venus, which right now is 15 times brighter than the brightest star in the sky passed less than one degree apart from each other as the two
of them move along in their orbits. The moon around Earth and Venus around the sun.

Those with an advanced knowledge of the night sky will also note that the moon and Venus are currently in the constellation Virgo.

The two will not stay together for long as while Venus will only move slightly from our vantage point by tomorrow night, the moon will be a significant distance away from
where it is this morning.

While the two nighttime objects appear close together for us, in reality they are VERY far apart. The two objects are nearly 76 million miles apart from each other.

If you missed it, you will get two more chances to see the moon close to a planet in the days ahead. While not as close as with Venus, the moon will pass close to Mars on November 13th and Jupiter on November 25th.
