Ice report for Lake Winnebago

Unseasonably warm weather forecasted through the end of January has the attention of ice fishermen and women as the ice on Lake Winnebago is already not as thick as it usually is due to a warmer than normal winter.

Friendship fishing club’s Scott Blanck says there is widespread 9 -11 inches of ice right now, but other fisherman say there are anumber of spots of open water in the Oshkosh area and Lake Poygan.

In a Facebook post on Monday,, January 21, 2024, Friendship Fishing Club says a crack in the ice at Cemetery Road is working more now that the weather is warmer and the area immediately around Kinker road landing has formed many cracks and that you should stay away from that Landing.

Blanck goes on to say he expects this years sturgeon spearing season to be similar to last year’s where overall, it wasn’t safe to be on the ice with cars and trucks, but the sturgeon shacks and ATVs were ok.

Friendship Fishing Club reminds everyone that no ice is 100 % safe to be on at any time.
