Vanilla Ice and Rob Base to Play Fond du Lac County Fair

The Fond du Lac County Fair announced yesterday that the grandstand entertainment for the Thursday of the fair, July 18th, will be 90s rap artists Rob Base and Vanilla Ice.

Vanilla Ice is best known for his hit Ice Ice Baby which was the first hip hop song to make it to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. A strange scenario because it wasn’t intended to be a single, rather it was the B side to his first release Play That Funky Music in August of 1990. Play that Funky Music never gained traction as a hit, but when radio DJs started playing Ice Ice Baby, it became a favorite amongst listeners. The song samples the bass line from the 1981 Queen/David Bowie hit Under Pressure.

Rob Base had a hit called It Takes Two which was released in June of 1988. While it didn’t reach number one like Ice Ice Baby, it was a top 40 hit that many critics have called the greatest hip-hop single ever made. The song samples several elements from Lyn Collins’ 1972 song “Think (About It).

Tickets go on sale for the show this Wednesday at 10 AM on the Fair’s web site at Fond du Lac County Fair.com
