Much of Northeast Wisconsin still in the dark after winter storm
36 hours after the worst of the late season winter storm has passed, nearly 36,000 Wisconsin residents are still without power. all of the outages are being reported north of Fond du Lac County which is not reporting any storm related outages as of this morning.
Counties that are still dealing with significant outages are Outagamie, Brown, Marinette, and Door Counties who have a combined 26,000 people without power. Wet heavy snow coupled with high winds snapped trees and downed power lines throughout Northeast Wisconsin and power companies have been working around the clock to get things put back together.
Area hotels that have power are at maximum capacity with locals looking for a place to stay and in Shawano County, officials opened up the City of Shawano middle school to act as a warming shelter for area residents with members of the Red Cross on site to help with accommodations.
Wisconsin Public Service, who services much of the area affected, says they have already restored power to 100,000 residents and expect the majority of the power to be back on by the end of the day today.
