Joseph M. Schmitz
Joseph M. Schmitz passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, April 7, 2024. He was born in Brownsville, WI on January 30, 1931 to Robert and Martha (Hoffman) Schmitz. He graduated from Goodrich Senior High School in 1948.
Joe was married to Mildred Ann Wagner on May 1, 1954. She preceded him in death on April 12, 2003.
Joe was a member of Holy Family Catholic Parish and volunteered in various capacities. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, past Grand Knight, and the United Singers. Joe enjoyed bowling and golfing. He was a very involved grandpa, going to watch every event in which his grandchildren and great grandchildren participated.
He was a fan of auto racing and enjoyed many weekends every year at Road America with his brother Jim and friends.
Joe is survived by his daughter Mary (Brian) Denzin; grandchildren Lisa (Trent) Vander Wal, Julie (Nate) Scheer, Tony (Lydia) Denzin, Andrew (Katie) Denzin and Eric Schmitz; great grandchildren Austin (Claudia) Alft, Mickie (Alex) Majors, Brayden Plummer, Shaylee Biermann, Hailey Schmitz, Bentley Scheer, Penelope, Olivia and Amelia Denzin and Max Denzin. He is further survived by daughter-in-law Nan (Randy) Sterr; brothers Tom (Karyn) Schmitz, Jim (Jerilyn) Schmitz and Rob (Eileen) Schmitz; sister Verna Lese; sisters-in-law Janice (Tom) McGauley and Joan Schmitz and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife, Millie, Joe was preceded in death by his infant children Michael and Barbara Schmitz, and son Brian Schmitz, brothers D. Michael Schmitz and John Schmitz, and sister Carol (Tom) Klamrowski.
Joe’s family invites relatives and friends to a time of visitation at Holy Family Church on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place following the visitation at 11:00 AM. Entombment will take place at the Chapel of the Risen Christ at Calvary Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to a charity of your choice in Joe’s name.
