Dangerous intersection to get expedited redesign in hopes to curb crashes
An intersection in northern Dodge County will get an expedited redesign after numerous injury crashes have occurred there recently.
According to recent data taken from a Wisconsin DOT crash map, the intersection of County Highway C and State Highway 151 between Waupun and Beaver Dam has had 12 injury crashes since the beginning of 2020 with one being a fatality.
The latest crash happened Sunday when a 31-year-old Waupun woman entered the intersection from County C and struck a vehicle driven by a 53-year-old man from Middleton. The woman sustained serious injuries and was transported from the scene by the Beaver Dam Fire Department Ambulance to the Marshfield Medical Center in Beaver Dam, then later flown by Flight for Life to UW Hospital in Madison. The driver of the other vehicle was uninjured.
Because of the recent number of crashes, Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt worked with Wisconsin State Representative Mark Born, the Dodge County Traffic Safety Commission and the Dodge County Highway Commissioner to get the Wisconsin DOT to prioritize the reconstruction of the intersection.
As a result, The Intersection is planned to be under construction beginning in May of next year with a new R-Cut design which will minimize potential crash impact points and increase safety.
Sheriff Schmidt says “It’s unfortunate that another crash has occurred at this intersection, but it’s encouraging that there’s a plan in sight to help make it safer.
