Outdoor fire hazard high – no rain in sight for relief

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has placed Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Winnebago, Calumet and Sheboygan counties under a high risk for outdoor fire hazards Sunday, October 6, 2024.

Low humidity values, high winds and dry fuel conditions are all coming together to make these conditions ripe for wildfires.

According to the DNR’s website, under a high risk. wildfires ignite easily, spread rapidly and can be challenging to control.

Anyone planning to do any outdoor burning should use extreme caution or wait until conditions improve, which could be quite some time as the National Weather Service forecast shows no rain in site for at least 7 days.
