PHOTOS: Waupun Fire Department celebrates 150th anniversary

The Waupun Fire Department turns 150 years old this year, and to celebrate, held an open house at their fire station Monday, October 7, 2024. Interactive displays, apparatus tours and a pictorial collage showing the history of the department greeted guests as well as a quick ride up about 50 feet in the bucket of their ladder truck.
Fire Chief BJ DeMaa thanked those in attendance and said it was a remarkable milestone in the history of the Fire Department, saying 150 years is more than just a number; it’s a testament to the courage, dedication, and resilience of the men and women who have worn the fire department uniform since it’s inception.
Waupun Mayor Rohn Bishop was on hand to speak to the crowd, saying how proud he is of the men and women that volunteer their services to help save lives in the community.
Other items attendees were able to experience was a smoke house, sprinkler display and a demonstration how the fire department uses the jaws of life cutting tools to help extricate a person that may be trapped in a vehicle involved in a crash.
