Cold front brings high winds. Closes Green Bay bridge

A cold front passed over the area yesterday, Sunday, October 13, 2024 bringing gusty winds in its wake.

By 2 PM winds were already gusting over 30 mph, but the real problems came around 10 PM when winds ramped up to over 50 mph over much of the area. In Green Bay, the Leo Frigo bridge, which is I-43 crossing over the Fox River on the north side of Green Bay, was closed for just over an hour due to winds close to 60 mph being recorded. The Brown County Sheriff’s office deemed travel across the bridge to dangerous for high profile vehicles which could get blown over by the cross winds.

Here in Fond du Lac County, a peak wind gust of 43 mph was recorded and trees being blown into roadways in the County as well as in the City of Fond du Lac were reported.
