Winnebago wildfire reignites 3rd straight day

A wild fire in southern Winnebago County reignited for a third straight day. On Sunday, October 20, 2024, A massive fire burned close to 200 acres in the marshy area east of Rush Lake drawing in dozens of firefighters.

After hours of being on the scene, they thought the fire was out, but wind reignited it early the next morning. Again several fire departments responded to find and extinguish hot spots but another reignited yesterday.

In total, nearly 30 departments responded from 5 different counties to help with the fire.

Dry and windy conditions are expected today which could cause problems again with area wildfires however, relief is in site however, as rain is expected over the area Thursday night.
