Dodge County Sheriff’s Office warns of scam calls

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of a scam taking place.

They say an individual or individuals is impersonating themselves as a sheriff’s deputy by calling from a spoofed phone number that appears as the sheriff’s office and they identify as a deputy with the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office. They inform the person called that there is a warrant out for their arrest or that they have missed jury duty resulting in a warrant. They tell the person that if they don’t satisfy the warrant immediately with them, deputies will respond to place them under arrest.

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office says Law Enforcement will never ask you for money over the phone.

The warning goes on to say the caller will use all sorts of scare tactics to get you to comply, so the best course of action is to immediately hang up on them. The department asks if you have fallen victim to this scam, to immediately report it to your local law enforcement agency.
