James R. “Pa/Jim” Moses

James R. “Pa/Jim” Moses, 88, of Fond du Lac, was born to eternal life on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, following a brief illness. He was born May 4, 1936, to Michael and Mary Moses in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

James started working at 8 years of age as a bagger and stock boy at his father’s business, Moses Complete foods, located on Merrill and Champion Avenues in Fond du Lac. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s Springs High School. He furthered his education at the Milwaukee School of Business. James served in the US Army, stationed in Alaska.

In 1960 he met the love of his life, Patricia Zehren and on October 14, 1961, they were married.

Jim purchased his father’s business in 1962, as well as welcoming their daughter, Gena and in 1965, they welcomed their son, Phillip. Jim and Pat enjoyed numerous travel trips, especially to Las Vegas.

Along with his wife Pat, together they owned and operated Moses Complete Foods on Merrill Avenue, Ma and Pa’s on the Miracle Mile, and Philly’s on Fourth.

Jim retired in March of 2024, serving the community for 80 years. Jim was a very kind and generous person, quietly supporting many individuals and organizations throughout the community.

Leaving behind to cherish his memory are his loving children Gena (Michael) Mueller and Phil (Lisa) Moses; loving grandchildren Matthew (Maggie) Moses, Katie (Tyler) Beckman, Anna Patricia Kraus, Luke, Alex, Meghan, and Max Mueller; great grandchildren Madelyn, Myles, Charlie, Jack, Zaria, and Camryn.

He is further survived by sisters-in-law Arlis Moses, Karen Moses, Jeanette Wehner, Janet Zehren and Claudia Zehren; brothers-in-law, Richard Zehren, Harvey Zehren; as well as nieces, nephews, business partner and dear friends, Jim and Cathy Schroeder; lifelong friends, Jerry and MaryJean Aspatore; hundreds of loyal employees and thousands of loyal customers.

He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia; his parents; mother and father-in-law Richard and Loretta Zehren; sister Patricia Pfarr; brothers Herbert Moses and John Moses.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:45 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 200 S Peters Ave, Fond du Lac. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will follow visitation at 3:00 PM.
