Man who crashed into Verizon store while high in 2023 sentenced

The man convicted of crashing his car into the Verizon Store in Fond du Lac in April of 2023 was sentenced yesterday.
21-year-old Benjamin Ayer was sentenced by Judge Andrew Christenson to 11 years of probation with 21 months of conditional jail time.
Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney was asking for 10 to 13 1/2 years of jail time for Ayer.
The sentence stems from Ayer being under the influence of Delta 9 THC and huffing aerosol on April 27, 2023, and crashing his vehicle into the Verizon store on Rolling Meadows Drive. The crash injured multiple people in the store.
Toney stated in a press release, The defendant’s significant history of substance abuse made him a ticking time bomb that went off while he was driving under the influence of marijuana and aerosol that seriously injured and nearly killed victims. This is another example of the dangers marijuana can present in our communities.”
