National Weather Service says ice jams possible

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook pertaining to the possibility of ice jams on local rivers as temperatures warm this week.

Thinning ice, breaking away and flowing downstream, can get hung up on a bend in the river, or as was the case in 2019 here in Fond du Lac, under a bridge. The ice jam that occurred at that time caused devastating flash flooding in the central Fond du Lac area.

It’s advised you take precautions ahead of time, should another jam occur. Move valuables out of low areas in your house and have a plan of what you will do if flood waters start to rise.
