City of Fond du Lac conducts city-wide property revaluation for 2025 assessment year

City aims to align property values with current market conditions and ensure equitable taxation
The City of Fond du Lac has completed a city-wide property revaluation for the 2025 assessment year. This revaluation ensures fairness in property taxation amidst changing market conditions by resetting outdated assessed values to current market values. On April 23, the City Assessor’s Office will mail notices of new assessments to all property owners. The notices will also include a letter outlining the Open Book and Board of Review process, dates and times.
“City-wide property revaluation is a necessary step to ensure that the share of property taxes paid by each property owner is distributed fairly by determining current market values for every property,” said City Administrator Joe Moore. “Over time, property values can change due to a variety of factors, including changes in the housing market, economic conditions, and local developments.”
The Assessor focuses solely on determining each property’s current value. The amount the City collects in total property tax revenue is unrelated to the assessed value of properties in the City.
While property owner shares might change, the City’s overall tax levy will not change this year, and the City will not raise any additional tax revenue because of this revaluation. However, some property owners may see an increase in their property taxes next year while others may see a decrease, depending on how their property’s value and their share of the total value have changed relative to others in the City.
“The City is dedicated to providing clear communication about property revaluation to help the community be more informed about this necessary process,” said Joe Moore.
