DMV Emergency Contact info program well received in its first year

The Wisconsin Division of Motor Vehicles says it’s program to add emergency contact information to peoples driving records has been a success in it’s first year with 82,000 people signing up.

Last year, the department began offering the option for motorists and individuals to add the emergency contact information to their records after Gov. Tony Evers signed the “To Inform Families First” law in 2023 to provide law enforcement the ability to contact a family member or other loved one more quickly in the event of an emergency.

Adding this information is voluntary and will not appear on your drivers license, however law enforcement, including police in other states, are able to access the information when they run your drivers license.

DMV Bureau of Driver Services Director Tina Braddy says This is a very simple, successful program that helps law enforcement reach a loved one or friend faster in the event of an emergency,” adding, people can easily add this information themselves online anytime.
