Fond du Lac’s “Halloween Killer” will remain confined to state mental hospital

The Fond du Lac man dubbed the Halloween Killer, for killing a nine year old girl while she was trick or treating in a Fond du Lac neighborhood in 1973, has again been denied release from a state run mental health facility.
Gerald Turner completed his original prison sentence for the murder in 1998 but was returned after a probation violation in 2003 sent him back for a 15 year sentence. Since 2018 when his sentence would have been up, Turner was deemed to have a “substantial probability” of committing another crime, and has remained in a mental health facility in Mauston. Despite numerous attempts to be released, Turner has remained in the facility, and yesterday, a Fond du Lac County judge denied yet another bid from Turner, to be released.
Turner sexually assaulted and killed 9-year-old Lisa French as she trick or treated in her Rose Avenue neighborhood and discarded her body which was found days later on Mc Cabe Road in rural northeast Fond du Lac County.
