Gordon V. Rock Jr.
Gordon V. Rock Jr., 80, of North Fond du Lac, formerly of Taylor Ridge, IL, died on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Hospice Home of Hope.
He was born on July 28, 1945, the son of Gordon and Marjorie Carlone Rock Sr. He was a graduate of Horace Mann High School, Class of 1963. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army Reserves (Company E, 2D Battalion, 3D Regiment) and completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. On May 18, 1968, he married Linda M. Kurth at Presentation Church in North Fond du Lac. She preceded him in death on October 16, 2016.
Gordon spent his career working for the railroad, as a switchman and later conductor starting with: Northwestern, then Soo Line, and ending with CP Rail; retiring after over 40 years. In 1987, Gordon was awarded the Sheriff and Deputy Association Heroism Award for saving a 16-year-old girls life after her bicycle was stuck on the train track. In his spare time, he enjoyed sports, including golfing, bowling, and participating on championship softball teams. He treasured his grandchildren and attended their various activities.
He is survived by his children: Dale (Sara) Rock of Fond du Lac, Coral Rock of North Fond du Lac, and Rebecca (Bradley) Bigford of Andalusia, IL; his grandchildren: Taylor (Allexis) Hoaglin, Sydney Scola, Bree “Breezy” Rock, Brady and Blake Bigford; his great grandson Grayson Hoaglin, his sister Carole Stettbacher, his sisters-in-law Mary Werner and Doreen Rock, his brother-in-law Robert (Dorothy) Kurth, his godson/nephew Todd Stettbacher. He is further survived by his nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother Michael Rock, and brother-in-law Gordon Stettbacher.
VISITATION: The family will greet friends and relatives from 3:00 – 6:00 PM on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Kurki Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 31 East Division Street, Fond du Lac.
SERVICE: Memorial Services will be held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Kurki Funeral Chapel & Crematory. Cremation has taken place.
