One dead, one injured in Winnebago County boating accident

A person involved in a boating accident in Winnebago County Saturday afternoon that was the subject of a two day search has been located deceased. The other person involved was rescued by a passing boat and is expected to survive their injuries after being seen at a local hospital.

The incident took place Saturday just after 4:30 pm when a report of boaters in distress came into the Winnebago County Communications Department, on Lake Poygan, right at the mouth of the Wolf River.

The Winnebago County Dive Team, Drone operators, Wisconsin DNR, and several fire departments in the area responded to assist with the search.

After exhausting daylight efforts to search for the missing man, it was decided to resume the search on Sunday which is when he was found early in the afternoon.

No information was released on how the two ended up in the water.
