George W. Fillmore

George W. Fillmore, age 71 of Fond du Lac, WI passed away peacefully at the Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac on December 24, 2025.

George is survived by his wife, Judith (nee Sadowski) Fillmore and son, Christopher Fillmore, his sister, Deborah Fillmore-Snow and brother-in-law, James Snow. He is further survived by sisters -in-law, Frances (Thomas) Knoll, Kathleen (Scott) Odin and nieces/nephews, Sarah (Robin) Luce, Daniel (Jamee) Knoll, Joshua (Sara) Draveling, Jessica (Jon) Beck and Rachel Draveling.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George R. and Marvine M. (nee Ripley) Fillmore, aunt, Bernice Fillmore and uncle, Millard Fillmore and by his mother and father-in-law, Esther and Stanley Sadowski.

George was born on July 5, 1954 in Bay City, MI. At the age of 9, his family moved to Bad Axe, MI where his parents ran a restaurant business for a number of years. George attended Bad Axe schools and graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1972. He participated in school sports and lettered in basketball, football and baseball. He fondly remembered the BA football team receiving a special championship medal for winning the football conference in 1970.

George attended Western Michigan University and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in Psychology in 1976. He was an EMT and teaching assistant during college. After college, he was employed as a youth worker at the Allendale Residential Treatment Center in IL then relocated to Milwaukee where he was employed at St. Amelian’s Center for Boys. As a side job, George worked as a real estate agent and broker in the Milwaukee area. He later worked with special ed students at Greenfield High School until 1990 when he entered an AODA counseling training program at the Milwaukee VA Hospital. He was a WI certified drug counselor for Taylor Co. Human Services in Medford, WI for 8 years until he became disabled related to a permanent neck injury.

George married Judi in 1982 while living in Milwaukee then relocated to Medford, WI in 1993. They had one son, Chris. George and Chris were very involved with Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts as well as hunting and fishing together. During Chris’s school years, George attended many choir and band concerts. George and Judi relocated to Fond du Lac in 2020 to be closer to family members living in southeastern WI.

George had a love for music and played the bass guitar for a church music ministry while attending the Assembly of God Church in Medford. His faith in the Lord Jesus and expressing it in music was very important to him.

His interests included hunting and fishing in northern Wisconsin, traveling with family to Cancun, Mexico, Canada, Florida, South Dakota, Maryland and Tennessee and taking Caribbean cruises. Also, Goerge enjoyed collecting Beatles’ albums, coins, guitars and

comic books. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He enjoyed the companionship of his dogs, Eyvind and Goldie and tom cat, Patches. George found peace being out on his 32 acres of land and pond while in Medford.

George’s humor, contagious laughter and wit will be missed by family. You will never be forgotten. Until we meet again, rest in the Lord’s love and peace.

George’s family invites relatives and friends to Zacherl Funeral Home on FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2026 for visitation at 10:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m.
