Two crashes impact I-41 traffic in Fond du Lac County Tuesday
Two traffic crashes snarled northbound traffic on I-41 Tuesday, April 28, 2026, for almost two and a half hours.
The first occurred around 9:20 a.m. when an SUV came off Scott Street and drove down the embankment, crossed two lanes of traffic on I-41, and ended up in the median. There were reported injuries, so along with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, a North Fond du Lac ambulance was also dispatched.
According to the Fond du Lac Police Department, who investigated the crash since it started on a city street, preliminary information indicates the vehicle was traveling westbound on W. Scott Street when it proceeded through the four-way stop at N. Pioneer Road. The vehicle then left the roadway to the north, traveled down a hill toward US Highway 41, and became airborne over the northbound lanes before coming to rest in the median.
Based on the initial investigation, it is believed the driver may have experienced a medical emergency prior to the crash.
A second vehicle sustained minor damage; however, no occupants were injured.
This incident remains under investigation. No additional information is being released at this time.
To investigate this crash, the northbound lanes of I-41 were closed at Johnson Street, causing a back-up of traffic.
While this was happening, a second crash occurred, also on the northbound side, near Military Road. At 10:15 a.m. reports started coming in of a crash with airbags deployed, and one vehicle in a lane of traffic.
This tied up traffic even more, causing a significant back-up.
According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, all lanes were back open at 11:40 a.m.
