Clara M. Henning

Clara M. Henning, 85, of Fond du Lac, passed away on April 29, 2026 surrounded by her children. She was born December 19, 1940 in Byron, Wisconsin to John “Joe” and Loretta (Schraven) Thuecks.

She graduated from Fond du Lac High School in 1957 and graduated in 1961 from Marian University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She started her career in a one room school house in East Troy and eventually returned to the Fond du Lac school system in 1966.

On July 15, 1967 she married the love of her life Ronald C. Henning. They were blessed with two children, Laura and Paul.

She continued to teach until 1997, retiring from Lakeshore Elementary School as one of the last original teachers at the school. After retiring, she and Ronald traveled around the United States. Clara was very active in the Fond du Lac Area Retired Educators Association. After Ron’s passing on April 30, 2013, she enjoyed going out with her friends at the pool and supported a number of charities.

She is survived by her children Laura Henning of Savannah, Georgia and Paul (Rikki) Henning of Fond du Lac; step-grandchildren Michael Prestin of California and Ryan (Drisana) Prestin of Maine, Hunter (Michelle) Davis of Fond du Lac and Sierra Omernik of Stevens Point; sisters-in-law Patricia Thuecks and Devra Scott; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Clara was preceded in death by her husband of over 45 years, Ronald, her parents and her in-laws, older sister Mary, younger brother Fredrick Thuecks, brothers and sister-in-law David (Jane) Henning, Ross Henning, and Michael Scott, nieces Christine and Pamela Thuecks, and nephew David (Judy) Henning, Jr..

Clara’s family invites friends and relatives to a time of visitation on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Zacherl Funeral Home in Fond du Lac from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fond du Lac at 12:00 PM. Clara will be laid to rest in Calvary Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the FAREA Scholarship Fund C/O Mary Southard, N10156 Gulig Road, Malone, WI 53049.

Clara’s family would like to give a special thank you to the nursing staff at 6 South at St. Agnes Hospital and the staff at St. Francis Home for their care.
