Fond du Lac County Emergency Manager stresses importance of having multiple ways to get weather warnings

With another round of severe storms forecasted for Thursday, June 11, 2026, including the chance for tornadoes, Fond du Lac County Emergency Manager John Ross reminds residents how important it is to have multiple ways to get warnings, and not rely solely on outdoor tornado sirens, which are only intended for people outdoors.
Ross stated “Sirens should not be relied on as the primary source of warning indoors. Unfortunately, I still get calls from people stating they didn’t know there was a warning because they didn’t hear the siren while inside their home or place of work. As part of my outreach activities, I stress the need to have multiple sources for emergency information including things such as NOAA All-Hazards Radio.”
Ross also says websites such as the National Weather Service regional website are great for up to the minute warnings, as are local TV and radio stations.
Also there are several weather related apps available for phones that can show radar and active warnings.
The bottom line Ross says, is for people to utilize multiple options and choose the ones that work best for them.
As always, KFIZ radio will broadcast warnings as they are issued from the National Weather Service, as will the KFIZ Facebook page.
