John Peter Kraus

John Peter Kraus, 82, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2026, peacefully at home with his family by his side. He was born on September 30, 1943, in Fond du Lac, WI. He began his childhood growing up on a farm where Holy Family Parish now sits. He was the son of Oscar and Dorothy (Freund) Kraus. He graduated from Oakfield High School, class of 1961, where he met his future wife, Sandra. John married Sandra (Nolan) on June 27, 1964, at St. James Parish in Oakfield.

John worked in banking for over 40 years. He started as a teller and through determination and hard work, rose to become president at F & M bank. He finished his banking career at National Exchange Bank & Trust. He retired from his first profession in 2005. He then worked at Rolling Meadows mowing fairways, greens and at times allegedly placing the pins at some tough locations on all the greens (so say his three-putt golf buddies). He retired from Rolling Meadows last year after working there for 20 summers.

John loved his family and was a loving husband, father and honorable man. He loved golfing, going up to “the land”, where many hunting stories were made. He enjoyed going to Arizona over the winter where he often shared with his kids how much he won at the slot machines.

John is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sandra, and his children: Brian, Daniel (Elizabeth), Brett (Dawn) and Shannon (Ryan) Dieringer; grandchildren: Andrew, Zoe, Jared (Brian), Noa, Rania, Amanda, Eric, Sarah, Sam (Dan), Alyssa, Lauren, Josie (Brett) and Bella, Maeve and Orla (Shannon); his brother, Roland (Candy), his sisters Dolores (Bob) Bender and Althea Zamow, brothers-in-law: Tom (Karen) Nolan, Mike (Cindy) Nolan, John (Lori) Nolan and Joe (Sue) Flury; sisters-in-law: Nancy (Dave) Vanderkin, Sharon Prickette, and Delores Kraus, along with many nephews, nieces and step-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents (Oscar & Dorthy), in-laws (Evelyn & Hogan Flury), grandson (Zachary), brother (Oscar), and brothers-in-law (James Nolan & Bill Prickette).

At John’s request cremation has taken place. John’s family invites friends and relatives to a visitation at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E Division St, Fond du Lac, on Sunday, June 28, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM. A funeral service will follow visitation at 2:30 PM. A private burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery. John was a great man and influenced many that crossed paths with him. We were fortunate to have had him in our life. He will be dearly missed but his memory will be strong amongst those that loved him.

The family extends their gratitude to the many medical professionals that cared for him as he went through his final journey without a complaint.
