Nancy Jo A. Schmitz

Nancy Jo A. Schmitz, 76, of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, passed away on July 24, 2026 at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac. She was born August 15, 1949 in Fond du Lac to Harold and Rosie (Huebner) Gilgenbach.

On May 4, 1968 she married John Seckar at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Fond du Lac. He preceded her in death on September 21, 2007.

Nancy married Terrance “Terry” Schmitz on July 27, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fond du Lac.

Nancy loved her morning and evening walks, camping with John before his passing, and going on Sunday drives with Terry and snow birding to Florida.

She loved her grandchildren and looked forward to spending time with all of them whether it be getting lunch, attending their sporting events, or just catching up on their social lives.

Nancy enjoyed gardening and landscaping, especially at her daughter’s house, ensuring her son-in-law did the job correct. Nancy never knew a stranger and made friends everywhere she went. Everywhere she traveled, she knew someone.

Nancy was a compassionate woman. She cared for others in need and never hesitated to help out.

Nancy will be dearly missed by her husband Terry; children Jeffery (Patty) Seckar of Eldorado, WI, Angela (Scott) Dowidat of Fond du Lac, Sara (Clay) Apo of Fond du Lac, Marc (Stefanie) Schmitz of Milwaukee; grandchildren Johnathan and Claire Dowidat, Kailani Apo, Viola and Jack Schmitz, Annie West and great grandchild Ryder; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Nancy was preceded in death by her first husband John Seckar, her parents Harold and Rosie Gilgenbach, and brother Richard Gilgenbach.

Nancy’s family invites friends and relatives to a time of visitation on Tuesday, August 4th, 2026 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Fond du Lac from 10:00 AM until 11:45 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place following the visitation at 12:00 PM. Nancy will be laid to rest in Rienzi Cemetery.
