Creepy Crawly Creatures coming to Brownsville Public Library October 13

Halloween season is getting a little wild at Brownsville Public Library.

J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue will bring its Creepy Crawly Creatures live animal program to the library on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 3:30 PM, giving families an opportunity to meet some of nature’s most fascinating—and often misunderstood—animals.

The seasonal program combines live animals, science and a little Halloween fun while introducing guests to creatures that may include:

• Spiders
• Snakes
• Insects
• Other fascinating creepy crawlies

“Animals like spiders and snakes tend to get a bad reputation, especially around Halloween,” said John Moyles, Founder and Director of J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue. “Programs like Creepy Crawly Creatures give people a chance to see these animals up close, learn what they actually do in nature, and hopefully leave with a little more appreciation for animals they may have been afraid of before.”

JRAAR educators will explain how the animals are adapted to survive, why they are important to ecosystems, and how responsible animal care plays a role in keeping exotic pets healthy.

Guests will also have opportunities to ask questions and learn the truth behind some common myths about creepy and crawly animals.

The program is designed for families, children, classrooms, scouts and anyone who enjoys a little spooky-season fun mixed with science and animal education.

Guests are also welcome to wear their favorite Halloween costume.

“Education is one of the best ways to turn fear into curiosity,” Moyles said. “Once someone learns why an animal looks or behaves the way it does, that animal becomes a lot less scary and a lot more interesting.”
