Elizabeth J. “Betty” Kohnke
Elizabeth J. “Betty” Kohnke, 88, of Fond du Lac, died Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at St. Francis Nursing Home surrounded by her family. She was born April 7, 1924, in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Harry E. and Ethel L. Bott LaPine. She attended Fond du Lac High School. On August 30, 1941, she married Harold E. Kohnke in Fond du Lac at St. Paul’s Cathedral. He preceded her in death on September 7, 1985. She was a member of Church of Peace United Church of Christ, was a volunteer for the SHARE program, was a member of Eagles Aerie #270 Auxiliary where she was a past president, mother of the year, and AARP. Betty enjoyed volunteering to help seniors and liked sewing, word search books, upholstering, canning vegetables, and making smock pillows.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol (Lloyd) Wiese of North Fond du Lac, and Betty (Michael) Galle of Fond du Lac, a son, Donald (Jane) Kohnke of Kiel, seven grandchildren, Shelly (Steve) Klein of Fond du Lac, Michael (Tracy) Kohnke of North Fond du Lac, Craig (Bethany) Wiese of Eldorado, Scott (Amber) Wiese of Malone, and Ashley Wiese of North Fond du Lac, Jessica Gorske of Fond du Lac,and Elizabeth (Scott) Inda of Fond du Lac, five great-grandchildren, Tylar, Matthew, Sophie, Parker, Anika, Aiden, and Remington. She is further survived by a brother, Benjamin (Patricia) LaPine of Fond du Lac, and four sisters, Alice Palkovich of Wausau, Audrey Prink of Fond du Lac, June Burns of Eden, and Gertrude (Stuart) Blau of Fond du Lac. Also surviving is her special friend, Clemens Schneider of Fond du Lac, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three brothers, James, George, and Leonard LaPine.
Visitation for Elizabeth J. “Betty” Kohnke will be on Sunday, October 7, 2012, from 4 to 7 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and again on Monday, October 8th, from 12 to 1:30 PM at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM on Monday. Rev. Jennifer C.M. Dawson will officiate and burial will follow in Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery.
