John Alger

John Alger, 83, died on June 11th, 2018. 



Son of Earl and Josephine (VanHulst) Alger, John was born in Little Chute. He spent his childhood in Kaukauna and moved to Fairy Springs Beach on Lake Winnebago before seventh grade. John graduated from Stockbridge High School. In 1956 he married Mary Wagner at St. Mary’s in Stockbridge. After he was married, he was drafted and served two years in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. 



John was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and especially sturgeon spearing.  He had a vast knowledge of nature that he enjoyed sharing.  John had a great sense of humor that was enjoyed by many and will be greatly missed.  He lived on Lake Winnebago for many years, which provided a great place to raise a family.  He came up with many fun adventures for his two daughters and their friends. 



John worked as a pressman at American Can Co. in Neenah for 41 years. 



John is survived by his wife, Mary, and his children Kathryn (Jack) Doxtator and Holly (David) Boe. Six grandchildren, Chantae Mittelstaedt, Shaun Bogan, Brittney Wanless, Blake, Grant and Shane Boe. Four great-grandchildren, Gage, Malia, Sophia and Keaton Mittelstaedt.



His brother, Ronald (Dorothy) Alger and sister, Carol Elmergreen. Brothers-in-law Les Winius, John (Sandi) Wagner, Mark (Sandy) Wagner and sisters-in-law Mary Kay Wagner, Joan (Andrew) Meyer, Lois (Bill) Forstner. 



John was preceded in death by his parents, his father- and mother-in-law, Norbert and Alvera Wagner, his brothers George (Gladys), Archie (Lorraine), Robert (Bernadette), Bernie (Gloria) and sisters, Joyce (Bob) Schmitt, June (Jake) Weber, Pat Winius and brothers-in-law, David Elmergreen and Paul Wagner. 



A Funeral Service is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 30th, 2018, at St. Mary’s Church in Stockbridge with Rev. Michael Betley officiating. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 until 10:15 a.m.
