“Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Holiday Enforcement Campaign Underway

The annual “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement campaign
for the holiday season is now underway. The campaign began Friday and continues
through New Year’s Day. Law enforcement across Fond du Lac County and the state
of Wisconsin are focusing on stepping up their efforts on the roads, but also using
public education and outreach to help deter impaired driving.

Alcohol-related crashes in 2018 resulted in 160 deaths and more
than 3,000 injuries. In addition, there were nearly 23,000 convictions for OWI
in Wisconsin last year. While drunk driving remains a concern – officials say
drugged driving is a growing problem in Wisconsin and many other states.
Drugged drivers are people whose ability to drive is compromised by the use of
drugs – whether it be prescription or over-the-counter drugs, or illegal narcotics.

People are asked to help the enforcement and education efforts
by calling 9-1-1 if you suspect a driver of being impaired, and to choose a
designated driver if you choose to celebrate during the holidays.
