Downtowners Will Perform At Buttermilk Creek Park Monday

The Downtowners, a five-piece Fond du Lac band that has played in the area for three decades, will perform a free outdoor concert at Buttermilk Creek Park on Monday, August 1 from 7-8:30p.m.  It is the seventh band to perform at the 11-week summer concert series known as Music Under the Stars which concludes on August 29.  

The Downtowners, led by retired Goodrich High School band instructor Bob Shirek, specializes in a variety of music such as Big Band, country, jazz, Latin, rock n’ roll, polkas and swing.  

Founded by Bob Shirek and his wife Janie in 1980, The Downtowners perform for local events and at dance clubs around the state.   The Shireks, who are both retired music educators, are skilled with a variety of instruments including the trumpet, saxophone, clarinet, flugelhorn, guitar and accordion.  Other band members include their daughter Annie Wisner on bass, Dan Seidl on keyboard and Greg Kilmer on drums.  Each musician is also a vocalist.

Food can be purchased prior to and during the concert, starting at 6:30.  Gillieburgers, brats, hotdogs, hamburgers, popcorn, root beer floats and more are available.  Attendees need to bring their own chairs.  In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved to the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds Cow Palace building.
