FDL County Board Approves Developers Agreement For UW FDL Student Housing

Fond du Lac County supervisors Tuesday night approved a
developer’s agreement for construction of student housing on the UW-Fond du Lac
campus. Supervisors threw out some questions with some worst case scenarios like
what if the UW-Fond du Lac ceased to be. Martin Rudd is the dean and executive
officer of the UW Colleges northeastern regional colleges in the UW-Fond du Lac.
He says the campus and extension program in Fond du Lac are strong. He says the
community supports it and they are making sure state legislators understand the
value of having both the UW-Fond du Lac and the UW-Extension on the UW-Fond du
Lac campus.
Developers are also hoping to keep costs affordable for
students who will be renting apartments in the facility.
Cost estimates for the 122 bed facility are at about $6.8
million. In addition to the developers agreement the County Board will also have
to approve a land lease for the project, but County Executive Al Buechel says
that is being finalized and will come to the board next month.
Supervisors approved the development
agreement on a 23 to 2 vote.
