Harris Launches State Senate Run

The top official in Winnebago County wants to be a state Senator. County Executive Mark Harris announced Wednesday morning that he’ll run for the 18th district seat as a Democrat. He says he feels like parts of the legislature have turned their backs on the traditions and institutions that have made Wisconsin a great place to live and raise a family. He says he’s afraid we will get more of the same if there aren’t any changes. Republican Senator Rick Gudex of Fond du Lac currently holds the seat. The election won’t be until the fall of next year. Harris says he would invest more in public education and the U-W System. He says over the years the state’s share of funding for universities declined and that forced administrators to raise tuition. Harris made an unsuccessful run for Congress last year.
