Hotel Retlaw Construction Could Start Soon

Fond du Lac Community Development Director Dyann Benson says it may seem like a long lag between the purchase of the Hotel Retlaw and the beginning of construction. But she says the new owners have been working actively behind the scenes since last June lining up financing and doing other work related to the renovation. She says approval of historic tax credits by state and national park services means they also approved the plans for construction related to the renovation. She says they agreed that what will be done in the building is historically correct. She says a second big piece is that historic tax credits will become available, which is an important financing mechanism to help move the project forward. Benson says the owners are getting close to having the construction documents finished and starting construction sometime in July. She says changes will slowly occur and the hotel will be brought back to life.
