Ice Still Thin On Most Of Lake Winnebago
Some would tell you it’s as exciting as the opening of the Deer season…but with the 2020 Sturgeon Spearing season a little more than a week away, area ice experts are reminding everyone to be cautious of the poor ice conditions on Lake Winnebago.
Most places are recording only 5-6 inches of ice at most. Some areas have seen 10 inches, but you’ll have to get off Winnebago to find it. Walking on the ice has been OK, but there’s not nearly enough ice to support any type of vehicle.
With the Sturgeon opening set for February 8th, there does not appear to be many days between now and then to make any serious ice. Just a reminder to be smart…the ice is NEVER 100% safe.
