Campbellsport Man Tased

A Washington County Sheriff’s deputy had to stun a 32-year-old Campbellsport man with his taser three times before taking him into custody. The deputy pulled the man over for equipment violations on Pleasant Valley Road Monday night. The Campbellsport man is facing resisting arrest, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia charges. The Department of Corrections also wanted him on a felony warrant.

Former Fox Lake Correctional Officer Suspected Of Abusing Inmate

A former officer at Fox Lake Correctional is suspected of harassing an inmate. The felony charge of abusing residents of penal facilities was filed against 45-year-old Thomas Lukas of Beaver Dam in Dodge County court this week.  He allegedly made sexual contact and racial comments to the same inmate on a number of occasions between 2011 and 2013.  His initial court appearance is set for October 17th.

Waupun Utilities Scam

Waupun Police say someone is trying to scam commercial business customers of Waupun Utilities. A person posing as an employee of the City utilities is contacting people by phone and leaving messages in an effort to scam money out of businesses. The caller threatens to disconnect the power to that business unless they call back and pay their power bill. The phone number left in the message is not to Waupun Utilities. Information Meeting On Highway 23 Project

The state’s Department of Transportation announced a meeting in Fond du Lac about planned improvements to 9.5 miles of State Highway 23 between Rosendale and I-41. The meeting is next Tuesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Fond du Lac County Airport. A brief presentation is scheduled to begin at 5:45 p.m. The remainder of the meeting will follow an open-house format. The purpose of the project is to improve the overall condition of the pavement, as well as address various intersection safety needs. The project limits are Becker Blvd. in the village of Rosendale and N. Rolling Meadows Drive/County VVV in the city/town of Fond du Lac. Construction is currently scheduled for 2019.

Transportation Funding A Concern

State Senate Minority Leader Jennifer Shilling says the transportation budget will be an important topic in the next legislative session. She says people are concerned about roads and bridges, but also broadband and connectivity to the internet. She says as important as it is to maintain our roads it is also important to figure out a way to fund maintenance and improvement. She says we have to diversify the way we are paying for roads. She says it can’t just be borrowing and bonding.  Shilling says the Governor has said there will have to be some project delays, which she says is concerning especially for southeastern Wisconsin.

Crime Prevention Program

A Fond du Lac Police program helps residents identify possible security risks at their homes. Officer Erik Foster says the program is called Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design. He says now is a good time for him to come and do a home inspection. He says it is a free program. He goes through a check list of how to improve security. That could include suggestions on lighting, how tall trees are, and locks on the doors. He says it is about preventing crimes of opportunity. It takes about 45 minutes and you will be provided with a report afterwards. To set up an appointment with Officer Foster residents should call Officer Foster at 322-3746.

Learning Walks

Teachers in North Fond du Lac will be learning from their peers’ examples through a new program being used by the district. District Superintendent Aaron Sadoff says similar to a doctor doing rounds teachers will be doing “Learning Walks.” He says teachers and administrators will be visiting different classes to see what is being taught. He says it is not about assessing what teachers do, but learn what they are doing well and learn what can be done better.
