Lakeside Forward Created To Support Master Plan
The conversation regarding Lakeside Park and the Master Plan is becoming a battle of preserving the past, while making progress and moving forward to create a destination that attracts locals and visitors alike for decades to come. Now comes word that a new entity has entered the ring, in support of the Master Plan.
Lakeside Forward is being touted as a group of like-minded businesses and community organizations who are committed to the realization of the elements of the Lakeside Park Master Plan as developed by the Lakeside Park Exploratory Committee. According to Envision Greater Fond du Lac, “Lakeside Forward supports the suggested improvements to Lakeside Park as key factors in the growth and development of the City of Fond du Lac; site selection for new and existing businesses; and resident attraction and retainment.
“At Envision Greater Fond du Lac, we listen to our business partners and are consistently hearing an overwhelming theme of reinvestment in our community as a means to retain and attract talent,” Sadie Parafiniuk, Envision Greater Fond du Lac President/CEO said. “Those organizations who have stepped up to make a financial investment in this project are looking to enhance the Lakeside Park experience to all who live in and visit our city.”
The City of Fond du Lac is paying a consulting company to perform a feasibility study to research a number of factors as they pertain to the proposed enhancements at Lakeside Park. According to Envision Greater Fond du Lac, Lakeside Park and the lighthouse peninsula provide enjoyment to the thousands of guests who visit the park annually. The proposed enhancements are meant to complement and enhance what is already there.
“The proposed enhancements to Lakeside Park are essential to making Fond du Lac a destination similar to our neighboring cities who utilize the water as a gateway to entering,” Paul Reetz, Integrity Saw & Tool, Inc. President, said. “The multipurpose building and amphitheater will provide year-round amenities and access to our current residents and those guests who visit.”
One look at the businesses that are in support of the Lakeside Park Master Plan, and you’ll find some of the biggest and oldest companies in the area, and most would tell you that attracting and retaining quality employees is becoming harder and harder to do. Improving upon key destination points in the county, like Lakeside Park, could go along way in bringing the best and brightest to the area, as well as finding new ways to keep the current members of the working community in the county.
The conversation regarding the Lakeside Park Master Plan will continue at the next City Council Meeting, set for August 12 at 6:00 p.m. The Council is expected to continue discussions on the request from the Advisory Park Board to halt all activities in the Park, until the feasibility study is completed. The current Pavilion building was set to have extensive remodeling done, with work expected to have started this summer.
