Lemonade Day In FDL Area
On Saturday, May 6, over 79 lemonade stands will be open for business across Fond du
Lac and Dodge counties as part of Lemonade Day. With 279 students registered to participate, these young
entrepreneurs will set up shop around the communities of Fond du Lac, North Fond du Lac, Oakfield, Lomira,
Campbellsport, Eden, Ripon and Waupun.
Community members are encouraged to visit any of the stands from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. A map of
Lemonade Day stand locations is available at www.fdlworks.com/students or at the Fond du Lac Area
Association of Commerce, 207 N. Main Street, Fond du Lac.
Lemonade Day is a fun, experiential program that teaches kids in 4th through 6th grade how to start, own and
operate their very own business: a lemonade stand. Youth experience entrepreneurship by setting up their
business during this community-wide event. By teaching key analytical skills, financial literacy, and decision
making, the Lemonade Day program fosters self-esteem and new mindsets that can propel youth to success.
“Lemonade Day has truly been embraced by the Fond du Lac area. The growth that we have experienced in
participation and business engagement is a testament to the strength of the program and the concepts that
the kids learn from the curriculum,” explained Melissa Worthington, vice president of the Fond du Lac Area
Association of Commerce. “Watching how kids evolve over the course of the program and seeing what they
come up with for their businesses on Lemonade Day is a really amazing. I think this program really opens
eyes and minds and inspires kids to think about their futures.”
The May 6 event is the culmination of weeks of learning and hard work. Leading up to the event, students
have been mentored through a workbook by a teacher, area business representative or guardian. The
students learn many aspects of operating a small business including goal setting, expenses vs. profit,
marketing and teamwork. They earn real money and use 100% of their profit to spend, save and share
based on their business goals.
